EFSA accredited food-safe recycling process
RTP Poolers and Service Providers can now have their end of life or redundant assets recycled into new food grade containers using Schoeller Allibert’s EFSA accredited recycling process – the first in the industry!
Prior to EFSA accreditation, containers made from recycled material could not re-enter the food supply chain within the European Union.
Now, when food-grade crates need replacing, they can be returned to one of Schoeller Allibert’s three in-house EFSA approved facilities for recycling.
Providing they have been used in a closed/controlled loop distribution
system (which allows for traceability of provenance) Schoeller Allibert
can recycle used HDPE and PP material and mould into new crates for
use in the food and fresh produce supply chain.
The products moulded from recycled material are fully compliant with
Article 4 of the EU Regulation 282/2008, providing customers with
a guarantee of safety and suitability for food contact.

Sustainable solutions for automated handling and tracking
In a world focused on labour saving, automated handling systems are an ever increasing feature of many supply chains. In line with this requirement, many of Schoeller Allibert’s solutions are designed to be compatible with automated handling equipment. For example, unfolding, stacking on pillars or bars can achieved using robots. Many of our bespoke packaging solutions have been developed in close cooperation with both industry leaders, and their system integrators.
Unique patented base and rim designs allows for fast movement and palletisation along with long term storage on mini-load warehousing systems with no base deflection. Especially important in food retail applications, all containers designed with ease of automated washing in mind.

Traditionally most fresh produce (fruit, vegetables and salads) was moved around the supply chain, and merchandised in store using cardboard cartons.
RTP DEVELOPMENT
Over the past two decades cardboard has largely been replaced in this application by reusable plastic folding containers. Schoeller Allibert has long been at the forefront of this development. Folding trays are now industry standard products, and not just in the fresh produce sector!

Pooled 1200 High FLC’s in the Meat Processing Sector
INITIAL SITUATION
Over many decades the meat industry has used a variety of solutions for the bulk handling of meat, particularly between abattoir and processing plant. Wooden solutions are now outmoded and unhygienic, whilst traditional rigid pallet containers offer poor return logistics economics.
SOLUTION
The Magnum Classic 1200 x 1000 x 1200 high has become almost the generic UK pooled Pallet Container for the meat industry. The additional container height (225mm taller than a regular FLC) maximises the load carrying potential, and the foldable nature maximises empty return load fill.

Maxipac – Folding Bulk Shipper
1. Maxipac is a lightweight, hygienic, folding large container for efficient retail-ready distribution to point of sale. Drop-doors on all four sides provide easy access for shoppers.
2. It is ideal for bulk, fast selling products such as potatoes, eggs, snacks (potato crisps), seasonal promotions (e.g. pumpkins), bakery products (baguettes), etc.
3. With a pallet or a wheeled base, its compact 800x600mm footprint makes it easy to move from back of store to point-of-sale.
4. When Maxipac is loaded it can stack two high carrying a 250 Kg unit load. It folds to just 320 mm to save valuable space on return transport, while its light weight design helps to cut costs even further by reducing fuel consumption.

Glan Aris operates with a 100% perfect wash guarantee, providing high quality, label free, thoroughly washed trays to retailers and produce suppliers throughout Ireland.
SOLUTION
In order to meet Glan Aris requirements tools were modified to minimise unwanted label adhesion in flat/smooth areas, and to redesign the label holder feature for similar reasons.

INITIAL SITUATION
NLP was set up by Norway’s two leading grocery trade associations, to deliver cost-effective and environmentally-friendly return and re-use systems for returnable containers in the Norwegian grocery sector.
SOLUTION
RFID enabled Maxinest Plus trays. Details of supplier, content, customer location, washing and delivery schedules are input into the RFID tags at the distribution centre. The receiver scans the crates and pallets through an RFID portal to access all information which is automatically sent through to the ERP system.

INITIAL SITUATION
For internal logistics, and deliveries to retailers, Kermené had a global automation project which required a new crate. This crate had to carry up to 40kg of meat (raw or packed) right through the processing and storage stages - and replace the roll cages for store delivery. Full tracking from slaughter to consumer was also required.

A unique 800x600 stack nest container was designed with a large front opening for easy access to meat cuts in stores. A unique base design allows for a 40kg load with no deflection in high bay automated warehouses.

1. Widely used throughout retail and industry, ALC's are an excellent rental product, with coverage of seasonal peaks in demand being an ideal pooling opportunity.
2. ALC's include an integral hinged lid and tamper-evident security to reduce losses & deter theft of high-risk or high-value goods in transit.
3. ALC's are very popular with retailers for all sorts of non-food products such as clothing, electricals, pharmaceuticals, DIY, tobacco, etc.

INITIAL SITUATION
Bepco is a Baltic pooler of RTP for food products into retail. The customer was looking for lighter, stronger, cleaner and greener RTP solution. Retail distribution centres could not efficiently handle the 30 different RTP types that they had to palletise and deliver to store.
SOLUTION
SA developed a new range of stack nest crates. The 3 standard footprints all fit onto Euro pallets and are suited to all kinds of consumer units. Many dairy and cheese products fit inside the 400x300 in 3 heights.

A world famous beverage application
INITIAL SITUATION
Coca-Cola, was looking for a new, efficient packaging solution for the distribution of beverage syrups to fast food restaurants. At the time, Coca Cola used 20 litre cardboard solutions, but the were no longer accepted by food service customers. The old solution was highly labour intensive, and created excessive packaging waste.
SOLUTION
The new solution had to be easy to handle, food safe and hygienic. In response, SA developed a 250L foldable Bag-in-Box solution – CL65. Special attention was paid to handling equipment, storage and distribution systems.

Kautex supplies blow moulded fuel tanks to OEMs on a just in time basis. To help meet tight production schedules, it needed to standardise its component feed to the production line, and to reduce packaging waste.

06. Food approved recycling services
Recyclability is an important feature of returnable plastic packaging systems. It is even more crucial for food & grocery retailers as only food approved plastic materials can be used. Schoeller Allibert is one of the first RTP manufacturers to gain EFSA approval which covers the recycling and remolding processes at our facilities in Murcia, Spain, Monheim, Germany and Hardenberg, The Netherlands.
The accredited process which covers the recycling of food-grade HDPE and PP crates into new containers for food contact, has been developed in order to help food processing companies and retailers meet increasing stringent sustainability targets. No pollution, no waste. We take care of all the necessary steps, creating a 100% sustainable packaging cycle.
