Sainsbury’s had two separate fleets-Maxinest trays used for fresh produce and old 180º stack-nest for chilled meat, fish & ready meals. To drive supply chain efficiencies, having a single Maxinest pool would save sortation costs, improve pool utilisation and increase vehicle fill. But the cost of manufacturing virgin crates was prohibitive.
Schoeller Allibert recycled their old fleet of plastic trays into new EFSA approved food-safe Maxinest trays.
A fully inter-stacking crate pool, improving ease of operation in stores and depots and supports Sainbury’s ambition to adopt more sustainable practices.

SRS is a pooling company operating in Sweden for all grocery retail stores and their suppliers of fresh food products. Swedish food industries were early users of RTP instead of one way packaging but the lack of uniformity of crates fleets did not allow logistics savings on a large scale.
Maxinest+ range was developed for SRS, to enable major progress in automation of processes and order preparation for fresh food consumer units. With a reinforced base for smooth conveying and double height stacking bars for more versatility on some models.
Global pool used by the Swedish meat-based-processed food to deliver all retail stores. Unique packaging format and models allow automation and logistics savings for the whole supply chain.

Pallets and roll cages were used for deliveries from distribution centre to retail stores. The old system was not space efficient and hindered stock replenishment, especially during busy periods.
800x600mm Universal Dollies are used for delivering fresh produce in Maxinest trays from distribution centre (DC) to retail point-of-sale. The trays are picked and loaded onto dollies at the DC before being dispatched to store.
Universal Dollies are more cost efficient than conventional roll cages and more hygienic than wood pallets. They have speeded supply chain operations as trays are simply lifted off the dolly and onto the shelf and, unlike pallets, can be wheeled without the need for pump trucks.
They also take up a lot less space than roll cages or pallets, are less obstructive to shoppers and look better in store.
1. Half (800x600mm) and quarter (600x400mm) pallets are ideal for distribution throughout the supply chain, all the way from supplier to point-of-sale where they form the base of a unit carrying either RTP or printed card / Correx merchandising display units.
2. The Universal Display Pallet features ten load retaining pop-ups to safely secure loads of different base sizes.
The customer was using wood pallets for picking and distribution operations between the central warehouse and the supermarkets. The wood pallets were heavy and, because of health & safety requirements, staff cannot handle heavy pallet loads by hand without forklifts at the stores.
The customer tested a variety of plastic pallets. Many of these had performance issues with the pallet bending under heavy loads risking collapse.
The Schoeller Allibert pallet is much stronger in the top deck for safe and secure distribution.
The Schoeller Allibert pallet is strong and robust, preventing breakage and resulting damage to products. The stretch-wrap edge saves time because operators don’t have to knot the roll before wrapping the load.

Jupiler Orange Gold is one of the main beer brands of AB Inbev. After the successful launch in Belgium they required a new crate for the Netherlands.
The new Jupiler beer crate needed to promote brand awareness and prevent becoming mixed up with the existing Belgium crate fleet.
The new 24 x 0.25 litre crate incorporates a middle handle with soft touch grip and in-mould labels (the old crates were silk screen printed). To avoid mixing of the Belgian crates with the Dutch fleet, the crates do not inter-stack.
The new crates perfectly fit into the Jupiler family with its strong brand identity and cannot become mixed up with the Belgium fleet.
From a user perspective the crate is visually appealing while the soft touch grip carrying handle is comfortable and secure.

Our Customer a large French Hypermarket retail company. The first Drive they opened in 2009 was not located to an existing store, but standing on his own as an independent warehouse and order preparation site. Initially traditional metal shopping carts were used for order picking. These risked damaging the contents (as bags were loaded on top of each other) and were time consuming to load (as bags had to be arrange to prevent damaging fragile produce).
Stack-nest Maxinest crates with connecting dollies which can be linked 2 or 3 units together to collate all crates per order. Operators wheel the dollies direct to the customer's car.
The system speeds order picking and uses 64% less space than metal trolleys. Maxinest crates protect contents so there is no damage to fragile food waiting for the customer to collect their order./p>
